A Message from the Wardens – 11th March 2022

Dear Friends,

Our service on Sunday will be Holy Communion. Reading: Luke 13:31-35.

After last week’s service we were able to send £192 to the DEC appeal for Ukraine.

Thanks to Liz Hayden and Liz Hardie for organising the collection and delivery of donated goods. Liz Hayden has sent the following report.

Thank you to everyone who donated items to be sent to Ukraine. We had planned to take them to Fletchers Waste Management in Sheffield but they emailed on Monday morning to say that they were unable to accept any more as they were completely full. However we found an operation, organised by Ryk Matysiak who is based in Barnsley. He has secured 3 articulated lorries complete with drivers and has donation centres in and around South Yorkshire. We delivered a car load to the Elsecar donation centre (pictured) on Monday.

On Tuesday the first lorry load of donations (pictured) were loaded and should now be with the people who need them in Poland and Ukraine.

We spoke to him on Monday and he said that he has the promise of at least 2 more lorries which will go on Monday 14th and Monday 21st and hopefully in the weeks ahead.

We were very pleased to learn also that Liz Hardie has a contact with a group who are also delivering aid and they are taking things twice a week for as long as is necessary so we will be able to send things to both operations.

Church will be accepting donations again on Sunday from anyone in the area who wishes to bring them between 12 and 1pm.

Since writing this both donation centres have said they are unable to accept any more donations but Liz Hardie’s contact have agreed to take this weekend’s donations as we had already arranged for people to bring donations. They hope to resume accepting donations when they have cleared more storage space.

Everything is needed but, medicines, non- perishable food, nappies, sanitary products, baby food and baby formula, toiletries and sweets are especially welcome as supplies are getting low in the countries welcoming refugees. The full list of items needed is as follows:

  • Backpacks, Plasters, Bandages, Painkillers (sealed / unopened packs ) Tourniquets
  • Nappies, Nappy Cream, Sanitary Wear, Toilet Paper
  • Cleaning Supplies, Antibacterial wipes/Gel
  • Bottled Water, Canned Food, Formula Milk, Toothbrushes, Toothpaste
  • Sweets.

Many thanks. Liz and Neil Hayden.

As we watch the horror going on in Ukraine and cry out on prayer for the people suffering there it can help to know that others are praying at the same time .Many of you will have received the email today from Compassion UK encouraging us to pray at 3pmeach day (which is 5pm in Kyiv) especially for the children.
