This week we have quite a lot of information to share about plans for Christmas.
Gifts to the local shops and businesses
This year Andy and Colleen are organising the distribution of a gift of chocolate with a card of appreciation to each of the shops and businesses in Totley. Everything will be available to collect from the hall after the service this Sunday. Please let them know if you can help and particularly if you have a link with a business you would like to deliver to. It is something that is always well received and it’s good to be able to thank the people who do so much for us during the year.
Knitted Angels – a message from Liz Hayden
If you have angels, please can I have them by Sunday. I am happy to collect them if you wish. Please give me a ring to arrange. Contact details available from the Church Directory or the Wardens.
We will be putting the angels in and around Totley on Wednesday evening (weather permitting). We will meet 6.30 pm at church if you are able to join us. Thank you to those who have already offered to help.
Thank you to all who bought my Christmas cakes. I was able to give £120 to toddler group, which was a great boost to our funds.
Church Family Christmas Card
Instead of sending cards to each other, we have the opportunity to sign one specially made for us and making a donation of the money we would have spent buying individual cards. This year Vivien has made the card for us and chosen The Cathedral Archer Project for donations. The card will be available in the hall for signing on Sunday. There will be envelopes available for donations.
Carol Service Tickets
The Carol Service on Sunday 19th December at 5pm will be a ticketed event to make it as Covid safe as possible. If you are bringing family and friends please reassure them that we will be asking people to wear face coverings (unless medically exempt) and allocating the seating to facilitate social distancing. To help us to do this please email us as soon as possible to let us know how many tickets you need so that we can plan the seating. We will be decorating the church on Thursday 16th December from 10.15 onwards. All offers of help very welcome. Any queries to Dorothy or Jane.
Carols at the Crown
The manager is looking forward to welcoming us to sing carols on Wednesday 22nd December at 8.30. Please save the date and we will confirm details nearer the time when we know the Covid situation. This has always been a good opportunity to take the message of Christmas out into the community.
So many plans for Christmas, but it is still Advent! We wonder how you are getting on with the suggestions in the Advent on the Frontline boxes. A suggestion from week one was to look for an opportunity to encourage someone. Ali has passed on an example of being on the receiving end of encouragement in the form of a thank you message from the family who came for the baptism service last week.
“Thank you so much for such a wonderful service yesterday, everyone commented on how much they enjoyed it, one seasoned baptism-goer said it was the best she’d ever been to! We really enjoyed it, thank you for making it so special for all of us, and especially for Teddy who now understands it all so much more!
Please pass on our thanks to the other members of the church family who stayed to help.
Finally thank you for the beautiful gift box, which we opened last night. So much thought has gone in to it! It’s really lovely and generous, thank you again.”
We would also like to thank everyone who sent cards to Ann’s mother for her 100th birthday last Friday. We had a good morning with her and she enjoyed her cake and looking at her cards and presents.
Every blessing, Ann & James
