A Message from the Wardens – 24th November 2021

Dear Friends,

It is Advent Sunday on Sunday and we look forward to welcoming Revd. Ben Tanner to lead our service of Morning Praise.

It’s not too late to join in the Lights for Christ Advent course, “Travelling Light”, which started this week. Details are in the attachment.

As part of the Arise Real Advent Calendars Giveaway we were able to give free calendars to the Wednesday Parent and Toddler Group members and to the children from our Sunday groups. Please pray that, as well as enjoying the chocolate, the children will discover more about the real meaning of Christmas.

Another way we hope to reach out to our community with the Christmas message is by distributing Christmas Angels round the district:

Thank you to all who are busy knitting Christmas Angels. Please keep going so that we can cover as much of the area as possible. Please could I ask that you let me have the finished angels by Sunday December 10th. The angels all need a label on them so if anyone is available to help do that please let me know. We hope to put them out on the evening of 15th December (weather permitting) and again if anyone is able to help please get in touch. This was really well received by the community the last time we did it so please support this if you are able to. Thanks, Liz Hayden.

Thank you everyone who bought Christmas cards at coffee time last week. £45 was raised to send to David Kereto. This week there will be an opportunity to buy a Christmas cake:

I will be selling small and medium sized Christmas cakes in aid of All Saints Parent and Toddler group after the service on Sunday. I have a few gluten free Christmas cakes as well as the traditional ones.

Small cakes are £5 each and medium sized ones are £7.50 each. If you would like one but won’t be in church let me know and I will keep one for you. Liz.

Contact details are available from the Wardens.

We need more volunteers to fill the gaps in the coffee rota for December. If you haven’t done it before, we can pair you with someone who would show you how everything works.

Totley Scout group are holding their Christmas Craft & Gift Fair this coming Saturday, 27th November from 10.00-4.00 at Totley Rise Methodist Church Hall. Entry is 50p per adult and all profits will be going towards the fund for a new Scout hut which is desperately needed. Refreshments will be available. As with all organisations over the past 20 months things have not been easy. However the group continued to offer online meetings during lockdown and face to face meetings as soon as restrictions allowed so that the young people did not miss out It would be lovely if All Saints could support the Scouts in their fundraising so if you have time why not go along and maybe pick up some Christmas gifts at the same time. (Claire Rose)

Also on Saturday 27th at Christ Church Dore Community Centre, the monthly Filling Station meeting.7pm for refreshments. Starts 7.30pm. Ends 8.45pm. The speaker is Ed Ravenhall from YWAM and worship led by Latifa Makuyi, who used to be one of the Soulroots youth leaders.

It was good to hear news of what is happening at Soulroots at their AGM on Tuesday. There will be a few copies of their annual report available at the back of church on Sunday.

Information from Ian, our Treasurer:

Thanks to all who have adjusted their giving in response to the Gift Day request. Many of you already have an existing direct debit which might be easily (!?) adjusted on-line, to reflect any change. For those of you wishing to set-up a direct debit, please contact the Wardens or Ian. For those of you who wish to give in cash who pay tax, we will supply envelopes. We ask that you identify the envelope, to facilitate Gift Aid claims.
For those of you who have a standing order which requires adjustment and who assure me that AST has to take action to “demand” any increase, I plan to make arrangements with AST’s bank with effect from December.

News of church family members

This week Marjorie Snowdon moved to Henleigh Hall.

From Marjorie’s daughter, Anne: Mum is doing well but the main reason to recommend the move was the number of times she has called for help in the night. Contact details are available from the Wardens. I understand that one can book phone calls in the same way as one can book visits but haven’t tried anything out yet. A bit uncertain whether visiting is allowed for friends at the moment but I know as family we are allowed to visit if we have a lateral flow test

Valerie Loft‘s funeral will be on Thursday 2nd December 2021 at St Marys Bramall Lane at 12.45pm with a cremation at Hutcliffe Wood at 2.15pm. Friends would be most welcome to join us afterwards at the Doubletree Hotel, but we would like to know who’s coming please. Contact details available from the Wardens.

A reminder about the Christian Aid Carol Singing:

Christian Aid Carol Singing Sat 4th December 12 noon.
We are allowed to sing in Fargate again this year. We have our usual slot at 12noon. Please come along to witness and help raise funds for Christian Aid. I will be there in good time, look for the C.A. sign. Thank you. Dorothy.

Information about our plans for Christmas services etc. are in the attachment.

Every blessing, Ann & James
