It was great to have our children’s work back again last week and welcome the families we have missed so much. Our service this week is Morning Praise, continuing our study of the book of James. Next week, 26th September we plan to start having refreshments in the hall again after the service. To do this we need volunteers to join the rota which will be at the back of church this week. No volunteers, no coffee! If you are able to help but need a reminder about what to do that can be arranged.
On Monday 11th October we will be hosting a confirmation service for all the churches in the Ecclesall Deanery. Please pray for our two candidates, Isobel and Phoebe. In preparation for this we need to do some tidying up of the grounds and extra cleaning in church. We have earmarked two dates for working mornings, Saturday 25th September and Friday 1st October both from 9.30am. Please try and come for some time. The more people who help, the more we can get done. If you can’t manage those dates but are willing to do something at another time, please have a word with Neil.
The Natter Group has now had two sessions in the library and made an encouraging start. Do pop in and have a coffee if you are ever free on a Thursday morning between 10.30 and 11.30. You will be very welcome.
Notes from the recent PCC meeting:
- Part of the church hall roof needs repairing so scaffolding will be erected on 22nd October ready for work to begin on 25th October. Part of the footpath may have to be roped off during this time.
- Some time ago the PCC was approached by a local group trying to introduce more wildflower areas in Totley to ask if some of our land might be used. We agreed to this and work has started. An area on the far side of the beech hedge has been mown and raked in preparation for harrowing and then seeding with perennial native wildflower seeds. The group has received a grant from a charity towards the cost of the seeds and the PCC agreed to make a donation towards the cost of the harrowing. Thank you to the people who raked and removed the grass on Saturday morning. If you would like to know more, please speak to Neil or Celia.
Gay has been in touch to let us know about “New Wine Online”. It aims to equip, encourage and inspire individuals and churches. There is a day of worship, prayer, prophecy and talks planned for Saturday 6th October addressing the question “What is the church’s calling to Heal the Land after the pandemic.” Please speak to Gay for more details.
Finally, looking ahead to Christmas, the Cathedral will be holding another Light Show from 30th November – 5th December. Tickets are on sale now and likely to go quickly. The first one they had was very well received. More details on the cathedral website.
Every blessing, Ann & James
