A Message from the Wardens – 22nd April 2021

Dear Friends,

We hope you have been enjoying the spring weather this week and the easing of some of the lockdown restrictions.

Dorothy has been in touch to remind us that it is Christian Aid Week 10th-16th May. This year their focus is on the effects of the climate crisis on those living in poverty. There is a lot of information on their website about their work and ways to help. You may be interested in signing up to take part in their annual quiz.

8th MAY 7pm. This is an on-line quiz for which you have to register for joining.

The quiz is hosted by the stars of “Death in Paradise” with Kate Bottley and Rowan Williams contributing. https://www.christianaid.org.uk/appeals/key-appeals/christian-aid-week/virtual-events

On Monday morning I (Ann) plan to go to the Grace Foodbank so if anyone has anything they would like me to drop off there please get in touch and I can arrange to collect it. The foodbank has continued to be busy and innovative in responding to the current situation and there is an excerpt from their most recent newsletter below:

These have grown out of the school holiday recipe packs that we have been distributing via partners for several years now. Each pack makes a main course for four people .Most of the ambient ingredients (pasta, tinned foods etc.) come from foodbank stocks and we buy the relevant fresh ingredients each week. The recipes are designed so that families can cook them together and we have photos to prove that an 8 year old can successfully make them. We trialled this before Christmas in a relatively informal way, offering a very basic recipe, but with Michelle (the new Foodbank Project Worker) on board we have been able to develop the packs, providing more of them, with more varied recipes (and sometime a healthy snack or a pudding recipe as well).. At the moment we are distributing 50 packs a week through our partners at Lowedges Community Centre and Jordanthorpe Library and they have proved very popular.

The topic for this Sunday’s sermon is Land and Plants as we continue to think about the environment. The Annual Parochial Church Meeting will follow the service at 11.00am. The login details are as usual, but if you need a copy please contact the Wardens on churchwardenstotley@gmail.com.

We hope you can join us then. With love from Ann & James
