Alive Gang – Don’t Worry (21st June 2020)

Last week we thought about how much God loves us. This week we are going to think about how God’s love for us means we have no need to worry or be anxious about anything.

What does the Bible say?

Read the following passage, where Jesus is speaking to his friends, immediately after he has told 12 of his followers that they will become his disciples. He told them to go out to the towns and villages to tell people about God and to heal those who are ill. This was something new for his disciples and they might have been worried about what he was asking them to do. However Jesus reminded them how much God loves them and that this means they do not need to worry. This can be found in the Gospel of Matthew, chapter 10 verses 29 – 31.
When birds are sold, two small birds cost only a penny. But not even one of the little birds can die without your Father’s knowing it. God even knows how many hairs are on your head. So don’t be afraid. You are worth much more than many birds.
Do you know what a sparrow looks like? Here is a video of a baby sparrow. As you watch the video clip, think about who looks after the sparrow and how it gets its food.

I wonder…

How do sparrows and other birds get their food?

Why does God care for the birds?

God provides food and other things that the birds need. He cares for the birds. However we are even more special for God than the birds. He made us in his image, like himself, and he loves us so much he sent his son Jesus to die for us.

Do we believe that God cares and loves for us more than the birds?

If God loves us, why do we worry about things?

What things are you worried about today?

Even when we know God loves us and cares for us, we often become worried about what is happening in our lives or what might happen. We worry about being liked by our friends, if we’ll do well at school or on a sports team, if something’s wrong when we her family members argue. Some people worry about being sick or being safe

God is reminding us today that we don’t need to worry about these things. Remember that God loves you and will look after you. This week when you become worried, pray to God and tell him about your worries. You can trust him to look after your worries for you, so you don’t have to. God is always there and he keeps his promises.
